Just the word for many can conjure up negative thoughts and feelings. We all have an idea of what the typical or traditional salesperson looks like to us. Usually, a guy in a beige suit who is pushy, annoying, won’t take no for an answer and generally has other negative qualities. I can instantly create an image in my mind of a cold caller or the atypical salesperson I have just described. Can you?
The problem is all too many of us instantly associate a negative feeling around sales and people that do sales. However, the reality is that sales is the lifeblood of all businesses and as a business owner we all need to do it. So why it is that when it comes to having those all-important sales conversations so many of us struggle to pick up the phone.
So why is it that sales can fill us with such dread and often present as a churning in our tummies not dissimilar to butterflies but not the exciting butterflies. When it comes to having sales conversations, we often become the master of making excuses, why is that? I think it can come down to fear, fear of rejection, fear of failure.
The good news is that it is 100% possible to love sales and that everyone can learn to be good at sales. The fear that so many of us feel around sales is in fact a symptom of doing sales badly.
I am on a mission to educate, help and support heart centered business owners and coaches to learn how to do sales in a way that is totally aligned to their style, values and be able to love sales as much as the work they love doing with their clients. If we do not learn to get better at sales, we will not ever be able to shift people’s thinking away from the negative thoughts and feelings so many of us have around sales.
